Client profile:
Samantha is a single parent to two dependent children; her youngest child suffers from a serious and chronic health condition. Samantha also has several health conditions herself which are painful, restrict her mobility, and negatively impacts her day-to-day life.  

Reason why client needs advice:
Initially, Samantha* approached us for help with unaffordable energy costs. The energy adviser identified that she would also benefit from debt advice and so referred them to one of our money advisers. 

What we have done to help the client:
When Samantha attended her first debt appointment, we discovered that she had unknowingly broken the terms of a suspended possession order and was facing eviction in just 14 days’ time.  We advised Samantha to make an urgent application to the court to prevent this from happening. We helped her by completing the necessary court forms and preparing Samantha for what would happen next which would be a court hearing, and it was vital that she attended and appeal to the judge.  

Outcome:

With our help and support, the client felt empowered to attend a hearing just one day before the planned eviction - and the eviction was prevented. 

We are continuing to work with Samantha to help her deal with her finances and access all benefits she is entitled to, which will include sickness benefits for both her and her youngest child.
