Client Profile: Clients are a married couple, they live in council accommodation with 2 children who both have additional needs. Children receive Disability Living Allowance (DLA) and both parents are in receipt of Carers Allowance. Clients are in receipt of Universal Credit.

Reason why client needs advice:

Clients were struggling financially, and their debts were increasing month by month. Both clients have priority and non-priority debts totalling £47,000 between them. Both clients are feeling very overwhelmed with their current financial troubles. Clients were advised to contact Citizens Advice Harlow by Harlow Council.

What we have done to help the client:

Our adviser explored with the clients the various routes available to them regarding their debt and the implications of each. Our clients decided on applying for individual Debt Relief Order’s (DRO) which was processed by our adviser through our DRO Unit. 

Outcome:

Both clients had their DRO’s approved and between them, debts totalling of £47,000 was written off.
