Client Profile: Our client is married with 2 dependent children and is currently in receipt of Universal Credit, Child Benefit and Council Tax Support.

Reason client needs advice:

The client has health issues and claims PIP (Personal Independence Payment). The client's husband is her main carer however unfortunately her husband's health has also deteriorated, and they were unsure if they both could claim PIP.

Our client was also awaiting an Autism diagnosis for one of her children and enquired if there was any help available for him.

Our client also reported having water debt and several non-priority debts.

What we have done to help the client:

Our adviser discussed with the client the descriptors for PIP and identified that the client's husband could be eligible to claim this benefit. Our client was advised how to make the initial telephone claim, and once in receipt of the application form, to contact us again for an appointment with our Benefits Adviser who can assist with the application. The client was advised of the one month from date of application time limit.

Our adviser discussed with the client that a formal diagnosis is not necessarily needed to make a claim for Disability Living Allowance (DLA) for her child and was advised on how to make the initial telephone claim.

Citizens Advice Harlow also sourced a grant for the client to help reduce the water debt.

An appointment was made with our Money Team who will give full debt advice to the client.

Outcome:

Two appointments were made for the client, the first is with our Benefits Team who will support the client with making a PIP and Child DLA claim.

The second appointment is with our Money Advice Team who will support the client in dealing with her debts.

A grant was sourced which reduced the client's water debt by £200.
