New year, new challenge?

All our new employees and volunteers receive the same in-depth training and support to provide the most up-to-date and accurate information and advice to our clients all year round.   

Training & volunteering here at Citizens Advice Harlow: 

Training is a vital part of either volunteering or working here at Citizens Advice Harlow as it enables us to provide the best possible service to our clients, whether that is over the phone, via the internet or face to face.  

It is imperative that we follow a relatively structured process so that we make sure we gain as much information as possible from our clients to be able to provide them with the best source of information to help them to move forward. 

All of our advisers need to achieve a measured standard of training, and this is achieved by carrying out a variety of training modules via our Adviser Learning Plan.  The areas covered in the training are: 

  • induction 

  • about Citizens Advice and the local community 

  • advising in the various enquiry areas 

  • legal framework and introduction to law 

  • working with clients – interview skills and the public site, negotiation skills, signposting or referral, communication skills 

  • resources 

  • research and campaigns 

  • benefits, employment, immigration, housing, energy issues, family/personal, debt and money 

  • Equality, Diversity Inclusion and Equity (EDIE), gambling harms, gender-based violence, mental health and wellbeing 

All of this training is delivered either face to face, via webinars, online modules, staff training days, and by shadowing our experienced advisers.   

The bonus is, that all of this is provided for free and can be fitted in around your working and/or personal life.  You can log on and off without losing where you got to and can come back to it at any time 365 days of the year.
